Size guides

How to measure, and the size charts for every category we sell. Our stock comes from two sources — Premier Equine (UK sizing) and our European brands such as Equestro, Acavallo and Pool's (EU/cm sizing) — so both are covered below. If a product page lists its own chart, always follow that.

How to measure

Stand your horse square. Measure from the centre of the chest, along the side of the body, to the furthest point of the hindquarters (roughly where you want the rug to finish, near the tail). Take that measurement to the chart below. If you're between sizes, size up.

Rug size (UK)Length (in)Length (cm)Approx. horse height
5'0"60"152 cm12.2–13.2 hh
5'3"63"160 cm13.2–14.0 hh

7'0"84"213 cm17.2–18.0 hh
7'3"87"221 cm18.0 hh +
Horse heights are a guide only — always go by the body measurement in inches/cm. Neck covers and hoods follow the same size as the rug body.

Boots & bandages

Brushing · tendon · over-reach · travel

Leg boots are sized by build rather than a single measurement. Use your horse's height as the starting point, then check the fit around the cannon bone — a boot should sit snug without pinching, with the strike pad over the inside of the fetlock.

Over-reach (bell) boots and travel boots use the same Pony / Cob / Full / X-Full bands. Polo/exercise bandages are one size (rolled to fit).

Choose the shape to match your saddle: a dressage square for a straight-cut dressage saddle, a GP / close-contact numnah for a general-purpose or jump saddle.

AMA brands · Acavallo / Equestro — EU sizing

European pads and half-pads (Acavallo, Equestro) are cut for straighter Continental saddles and are usually sized S / M / L by saddle seat, given in centimetres. Acavallo half-pads run to a Large that fits 17½"–18" saddles. Follow the cm measurement on the individual product page.

Rider clothing (breeches, jackets, base layers)

UK ↔ EU ↔ Italian conversion

Premier Equine clothing is cut to UK sizes. Our Italian brands (Equestro, Pool's) use EU / IT sizes — use the row that matches your usual UK size.

Breeches with a full seat / grip are cut close — if you're between sizes or ride in thicker winter layers, size up.

Riding hats & helmets

Measure around your head about 1 cm above the eyebrows and the top of the ears — the widest point. Take that in centimetres to the chart.

A hat must sit level and snug with the harness done up — for safety we recommend a professional fitting for anyone new to a brand or model.

Riding gloves

Measure around the widest part of your palm (across the knuckles, not including the thumb) in inches — that number is roughly your glove size.

Hoof boots

AMA brands · Cavallo / Acavallo

Hoof boots are sized off the trimmed hoof. With the foot freshly trimmed and on firm ground, measure:

Match the larger of the two to the size table printed on the individual product page. If width and length give different sizes, go by width. Boots fit best 2–4 weeks into a trim cycle rather than immediately after.

Still not sure? Message us with your horse's height and the measurement you've taken and we'll help you choose.
