Hello from Cheshire

Who we are

We're Ben and Elle, and Discount Equine is run from our shop and warehouse in Cheshire. Elle has five horses of different shapes, ages and opinions, which means five sets of rugs, boots, pads and everything else that goes with them. She's bought a lot of horse kit over the years, and plenty of the wrong thing too.

Elle is the horsewoman. She mucks out, rides and competes in dressage and show jumping, and has years of experience bringing on youngsters and breakers, so when she says a rug fits or a boot rubs, it's because she's had it on a horse. She also looks after most of what you see on our socials, and she's the one packing your order. She loves that part, which is why there's usually a handwritten note in the box.

They're Elle's horses. Ben's role with them is treats and cuddles. Everything else he does is the buying, the website and the bits with spreadsheets in.

The shop started with a simple frustration: the kit that actually lasts was always the kit we winced at paying full price for. So we set up to sell the brands we'd buy ourselves, at the prices we'd have wanted as customers.

Why our prices are below RRP

No showroom, no staff on the shop floor, no middle layer. We buy direct from the brands, keep our overheads small and pass the difference on. Every product on the site is genuine, boxed and new, bought through the proper trade channels, and almost every price is below the manufacturer's RRP.

That includes the big-ticket things. Saddles, turnout rugs and boots are where a saving matters most, so that is where we work hardest on the price.

What we actually stock

Rugs, boots, saddle pads, saddles and bridlework, plus grooming kit, yard essentials and rider clothing, from a range of brands we rate and use ourselves. We'd rather stock one good version of something than ten average ones, so the range is chosen, not just listed.

If something is on the site it is either on our warehouse shelves or on its way from the brand's own stock. Anything that ships from further afield says so on the product page, and delivery is explained plainly rather than buried in small print.

How we look after you

Orders go out with Royal Mail Tracked, you get the tracking number by email, and free UK delivery kicks in over £75. Sizing questions get a real answer from Elle, who has measured a horse for a rug this week. If it isn't right, returns are straightforward.

We ask every customer how they got on, and we publish the reviews as they come in, good and bad. It keeps us honest and it helps the next rider choose.
