This site is operated by BarkingMad Group Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 14950754), registered office 11 Penda Way, Sandbach, England, CW11 1GS. “Discount Equine” is a trading name of that company. You can reach us at hello@discountequine.co.uk.

Last updated 30 August 2026. This explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do about it.

Who we are

BarkingMad Group Ltd is the data controller for personal information collected through discountequine.co.uk. If you have a question about your data, or want to make any of the requests set out below, email hello@discountequine.co.uk and we will respond within one month.

What we collect

When you place an order: your name, email address, delivery and billing address, and phone number if you give one. We also keep the contents of the order and its status.

When you create an account: your name, email address, and a one-way hash of your password. We never store your password itself and cannot read it.

When you pay: nothing. Card details are entered directly into Stripe's payment fields and never reach our server. We receive only a confirmation, the last four digits, and the card type.

When you ask us to tell you something: your email address, for a back-in-stock alert, an order tracking request, or a gift card you send to someone else. If you buy a gift card for another person we also hold the recipient's name and email address so we can deliver it.

When you browse: the pages you view, roughly when, the type of device, and the site that referred you. This is recorded on our own server — there is no third-party tracking script on this site.

We identify a visitor without using a cookie. Your IP address and browser type are combined with a secret that changes every day and turned into a one-way hash. That hash tells one visitor apart from another within a single day, cannot be turned back into your IP address, and stops matching you the next day. We do not store IP addresses.

Approximate location: your IP address is looked up once, in memory, to get a town-level position for our own traffic map. It is rounded to roughly 11 km and the IP address itself is discarded — we store a town, never an address, and never the IP.

Basket and wishlist: these live in your own browser. A summary is sent to us so we can see what is selling and recover a checkout you asked us to.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing.

We pass on only what is needed, to:

How long we keep it

Cookies

We use one cookie, and only once you sign in: a session cookie that keeps you logged in. It is strictly necessary for the site to work and carries no advertising or tracking purpose, which is why there is no consent banner on this site.

Your basket and wishlist are kept in your browser's local storage rather than in a cookie, so they never leave your device except as the summary described above. Clearing your browser data clears both.

Our analytics deliberately use no cookie at all — see the daily hash described above.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask us to: give you a copy of your data; correct it if it is wrong; delete it; restrict what we do with it; send it to you or another provider in a portable format; or stop processing it where we rely on legitimate interests. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time — every marketing email has an unsubscribe link.

Email hello@discountequine.co.uk and we will deal with it within one month. There is no charge.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would rather you came to us first so we can put it right.

Deleting your data does not remove records we must keep by law, such as a completed order needed for tax purposes.

Changes

If we change how we use your data we will update this page and change the date at the top. Where a change is significant we will tell you by email.
